THOMASVILLE — Thomasville and Thomas County public safety employees will participate in a Friday procession to honor those who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

On that day, two commercial jets commandeered by terrorists flew into the World Trade Center towers in New York City. Close to 3,000 people died. Shortly after the New York attacks, another terrorist-guided plane flew into The Pentagon, and another crashed in the Pennsylvania countryside.

At 8:46 a.m Friday — the time when the first plane struck a Manhattan tower 19 years ago — local public safety personnel will form a procession, beginning at the old Food Lion site on West Jackson Street, to continue along West and East Jackson to Pinetree Boulevard.

“We ask that anyone who would like to honor the victims of Sept. 11 to line Jackson Street on the sidewalks and participate in the event,” said Mike Stephenson, Thomas County manager.
