THOMASVILLE — A Thomas County man faces charges after a Thomas County Sheriff’s Office investigator responded to a Thomasville physician’s office where physical injuries were reported on a young patient.

“A forensic interview was conducted with the victim at The Treehouse Children’s Advocacy Center in Thomasville,” said Capt. Tim Watkins, sheriff’s office chief investigator.

Watkins said the victim disclosed acts that led to the arrest of James William Dalton during questioning at the sheriff’s office.

Dalton is charged with rape and child molestation.

Investigator Kevin Dennis, who responded to the physician’s office, said offenses took place more than twice at a Thomas County residence.

Watkins declined to provide the victim’s age or gender but acknowledged the victim is under the age of 16.

Dennis said the offenses took place over a period of time.

“It’s an historical case dating back over a year,” the investigator said. “It did not happen in the immediate past.”

The 28-year-old suspect did not admit to any wrongdoings when interviewed by investigators, Watkins said.

Dalton was denied bond and is being held at the Thomas County Jail.
