Archbold system sees rise in COVID-19 cases

THOMASVILLE — Archbold officials reported Tuesday that to date there have been 733 positive test results for COVID-19 across their system, with 62 deaths, since testing began March 11. There also have been 5,200 negative test results. 

There have been 327 people admitted to Archbold hospitals since testing started. Over the past week, the system has had 86 new positive test results and 511 new negative results. Thirty-eight people have been admitted to Archbold hospitals in the last week for COVID-19.

As of Tuesday, there were 27 COVID-19 positive patients at Archbold Memorial Hospital, three at Grady General Hospital and two at Mitchell County Hospital. There are no COVID-19 positive patients at Brooks County Hospital.

Archbold also is revising its visitor policies effective Wednesday, July 15. Patients at the emergency department or urgent care may have one designated visitor at bedside as appropriate, and two if the patient is a minor. No visitors are allowed to wait in waiting areas.

Patients at the hospital for an outpatient diagnostic procedure, such as radiology or lab work, should enter the facility alone unless they require assistance.

Archbold is discontinuing inpatient visitation, except if the patient is an end-of-life situation or when a visitor is required to assist with communication or special care needs.

The following policies remain in place at this time:

• Patients that are suspected or confirmed to be COVID-19 positive will not be allowed to have visitors.

Patients at the hospital for a procedure (such as surgery, endoscopy procedure or cath lab procedure) may have one visitor accompany them and wait in a waiting room during the procedure. The visitor will be issued an armband.

No visitor will be allowed at our long-term care facilities.

No visitors will be allowed at outpatient clinics, including primary care clinics, unless the patient is a minor or requires assistance.

The Georgia Department of Public Health reports there have been 609 COVID-19 positive tests in Thomas County, with 33 deaths. There also have been 91 people to be hospitalized because of the novel coronavirus.

Statewide, there have been more than 123,000 confirmed positive tests for COVID-19, leading to 3,054 deaths in Georgia and 13,685 people being hospitalized.

The state has administered more than 1.1 million tests.
