THOMASVILLE — A manager and two assistant managers have been appointed for Thomas County’s Ranges at Oakfield Sporting Center that is to open soon.

Jared C. Singletary, a Thomasville resident and Thomas County Central High School graduate, was appointed manager. He worked as manager at Blackshear Road Plantation before joining government.

Singletary’s previous employment includes Kevin’s Sporting Goods and Singletary Tire, said Mike Stephenson, county manager.

Richard E. Orso, a Pavo resident, was appointed assistant manager of the County Farm Road facility. Charles Lee “Chuck” Repass also was appointed an assistant manager.

“I am excited to be working with these three men, given their breadth of experience,” said Jay Knight, Ranges at Oakfield project director. “I don’t believe we could have hired a better team to manage this state-of-the-art facility.”

Stephenson said a priority in hiring range personnel was selecting people who can assist individuals comfortable with firearms, as well as those who are not.

“We want a place where accomplished shooters can go and have a good time,” he said.

The range manager and assistant managers are familiar with all types of weapons.

“We feel like we are off to a good start, and they’ve been instrumental in making that possible,” Stephenson said.

Orso retired from his own business, Orso Insurance Company, before beginning Thomas County employment. Prior military experience includes the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division and the U.S. Coast Guard. 

Before joining Thomas County, Repass retired at the rank of captain with the Georgia Corrections Academy, where he served as a public safety trainer. 

Repass also worked previously as a corrections officer with the Georgia Department of Corrections and the Virginia Department of Corrections, Stephenson said. Prior military experience includes the U.S. Air Force as an explosive ordnance specialist.

Repass, a Moultrie resident, is a graduate of Pulaski County High School in Dublin, Virginia.

The manager and assistant managers will be paid about $16 per hour.
