THOMASVILLE — There is a new leader for the Thomasville High School Lady Bulldog basketball team. Kim Taylor was approved and named the head coach of the Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday, June 9.
Taylor holds a masters and bachelor’s in education with a focus in health and physical education from Georgia Southwestern State University. At Georgia Southwestern State University, she was a college standout lettering three years for the Lady Hurricane basketball team, leading her team to a district championship her sophomore season.
Taylor is entering her 24th year as an educator. She has taught at all levels in the education profession including elementary, middle, and high. She will serve as a physical education teacher at Jerger Elementary School this school year.
“I want to thank my family for their support and also the Thomasville City School Board of Education and administration for the opportunity to be a part of the Bulldog Nation,” she said.
Taylor has served as the head girls’ basketball coach at Pelham High School, Brookwood School, and most recently at Worth County High School. In the two years prior to Taylor taking the head position, the Lady Warrior basketball program was 3-22 overall. The two years following, Taylor led the Lady Warriors to 24 victories and back-to-back GISA Region 3-AAA championship appearances. She was recognized by her peers as the GISA Region 3-AAA Coach of the Year in 2017 and 2018.
At Worth County, Taylor inherited a program that was 25-109 the five years prior to her arrival. In her two years at the helm, Taylor reenergized the Lady Rams basketball program into a competitor in the GHSA Region 1-AAA. Over the course of her two years at Worth County, the Lady Rams secured 24 victories with two GHSA Region 1-AAA championship appearances.
Thomasville High School Athletic Director Chris Merritt is excited about the new family member to the Thomasville City Schools and new addition to the Thomasville High School Athletic Department.
“We are extremely excited to have Coach Taylor here at Thomasville and we just want to welcome her to Bulldog Nation,” Merritt said. “Coach Taylor understands the strong history and tradition of the Lady Bulldog basketball program and the expectations that come along with this privilege of leading such a storied program; we are excited for her and where she plans on leading us as a program.
“Coach Taylor brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and we look forward to her getting to work and meeting with the coaches, student-athletes, and the community.”
