Thomasville police were contacted at 4:51 p.m. Tuesday by a motorist who said a tire blew out on a white car traveling near her on 19 South and struck her vehicle.
“An officer responded, thinking it was a traffic accident,” said Lt. Toby Knifer, police Criminal Investigations Division commander.
The officer saw a man putting a spare tire on a white Chevrolet Impala at a nearby convenience store/gasoline station at 13327 19 South.

Knifer said police had received a lookout alert for Shivers, and the Impala matched the description in the alert.
The officer took Shivers into custody and set up a crime scene.
Jamy Steinberg, special agent in charge of the Thomasville GBI office, said GBI agents were attempting to find out what prompted the fatal shooting. More interviews of associates, witnesses and co-workers were underway Wednesday, Steinberg said.
Anyone with information about the shooting should contact Camilla Police Department at (229) 336-2201 or the GBI at (229) 225-4090.
“At any given moment, officers do not know what they’re dealing with,” Knifer said. “It could be a motorist needing help or it could be a suspect in a fatal shooting.”
