CAIRO — A routine traffic stop turned into a drug bust Tuesday night when a state trooper found illegal narcotics inside a vehicle.

A trooper with the Georgia State Patrol initiated a traffic stop after witnessing a driver traveling at a high rate of speed Tuesday night. During the traffic stop, the trooper noticed that the driver, Dallas Bozeman, had been driving with a suspended license.

A search of Bozeman’s vehicle uncovered an unspecified quantity of methamphetamine and several hypodermic needles consistent with methamphetamine use, said Commander Chris Luckey with the Grady County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit.

“He later essentially admitted to possession of it,” Luckey said.

Luckey said Bozeman, 49, was traveling about 76 mph in a 55 mph zone when he was pulled over along Highway 84 near the intersection with Stanfill Road.

Bozeman, already serving a probation sentence for possession of methamphetamine, has been charged with driving with a suspended license, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug-related objects. A charge of driving under the influence is pending results of a blood test.

A female passenger in Bozeman’s vehicle was later released without being charged.
