CAIRO — Though the coronavirus pandemic hasthrown the traditional delegate selection process through a loop, Grady County Democratic Party chair Sandra Sallee said the Democratic Party of Georgia has a plan and process in place to select delegates to this year’s Democratic National Convention virtually.
Individuals interested in voting for delegates as district-level electors can register to do so at georgiademocrat.org until Friday, May 8 at 8 p.m. A virtual ballot will then be emailed to registrants on May 23, and 68 winners will be chosen as district-level delegates to the convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin this August.

Additional delegates will be selected virtually in June by the 68 winners of the May 23 election and by members of the State Committee of the Democratic Party of Georgia.
Candidates interested in serving as delegates can register to do so at georgiademocrat.org until Friday, May 8.
All dates are subject to change due to the current pandemic.
“It’s a whole new world, as you know,” Sallee said.
Delegates to the Democratic convention are chosen at the congressional district level, and no Grady County residents have yet offered themselves up as candidates in Georgia’s second congressional district, Salle said.
“It’s a very expensive proposition,” she said. “It’s a significant commitment of time and money.”

Grady County’s Democratic Party is more focused on rebuilding on a solid footing than fielding delegate candidates, Sallee said.
Georgia is allocated 129 delegates at the national convention, nine of whom will serve as alternates.
