THOMASVILLE — A suspect who told narcotics agents he thought he could get away from a state trooper is in the Thomas County Jail.

Around midnight Sunday, Thomasville Post 12 Georgia State Patrol Trooper Stephen Kornegay encountered a car being driven recklessly and running a red light at Fletcher and Lester streets. Kornegay attempted to stop the vehicle driven by Joshua Lidrick Crumby.

“(Mr.) Crumby decided not to comply,” said Louis Schofill, Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division commander.

Crumby fled at a high rate of speed, pursued by the trooper for several blocks. The Nissan Crumby was driving crashed into a house at Magnolia and Fern streets, Schofill said.

“He (Crumby) got out and ran. The trooper, who was faster than (Mr.) Crumby, caught him on foot,” the commander said.

A search of the Nissan produced a felony amount of marijuana.

The suspect, 29, 308 Fern, is charged with multiple traffic offenses, felony marijuana possession and felony fleeing and eluding. The latter charge carries a minimum sentence of one to five years in prison.

“Hopefully, people realize that it’s unlawful to run, and you’re going to prison on that charge alone,” Schofill said. “We really appreciate the troopers working in Thomas County. They always help us. They do a good job.”
