Three Bulldogs, one Syrupmaker chosen to GSWA all-state

Three Thomasville Bulldogs and a Cairo Syrupmaker have been named to the Georgia Sports Writers Association all-state football team.

Thomasville senior tight end Payten Singletary, senior kicker Hurston Waldrep and sophomore linebacker Ty Anderson were selected to the Class AA all-state team.

Singletary, who has signed with the University of Cincinnati, caught 35 passes for 446 yards and seven touchdowns in the 2019 season. He also had 10 tackles for loss on defense.

Anderson, who also received an offer from South Carolina, led the Bulldogs with 128 tackles. Of that total, 102 were solo stops. He also had 17 tackles for a loss. Anderson also recorded an interception and a fumble recovery.

Waldrep was 50-of-51 on extra-point attempts this season and was 14-of-18 on field goal attempts, with a long of 53 yards. Twenty-six of his 73 kickoffs went for touchbacks. 

He has signed to play baseball at Southern Miss.

“We’re very proud of these young men for representing our program as well on the field as they do off the field,” Bulldogs head coach Zach Grage said. “We are very excited to see what Payten and Hurston both do in the near future in their college endeavors, and are very blessed to have Ty coming back for the next two years.”

Cairo junior kicker Noah Jones was named to Class AAAA all-state. Jones was 37-of-39 on extra points and 11-of-19 on field goals, with a long of 48. He also had 59 touchbacks out of 73 kickoffs and averaged 43.7 yards per punt.
