CAIRO — Thirty-six cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Grady County as of Monday morning, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health, with six individuals hospitalized.

Grady County Administrator Buddy Johnson said DPH data shows that confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Grady County are growing steadily at a rate of about 11 new cases per week, but more frequent testing and faster results may indicate a slight slowing of that pace. Johnson said residents should remain vigilant and continue to comply with Gov. Brian Kemp’s shelter in place order.

Cairo interim police chief Giovannie Santos said Monday that there have not been any incidences of individuals failing to comply with the order.

DPH had reported at least 31 cases of the virus Friday morning, after an additional 10 confirmed cases were added over the course of last week.

The county’s first death attributed to the virus also occurred last week — a 57-year-old female resident who died at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville

No other deaths have been attributed to the virus in Grady County.
