CAIRO — At least 31 cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Grady County as of Friday morning, according to the Grady County Health Department.
Grady County’s first death attributed to the virus occurred earlier this week. The Grady County coroner’s office said the patient was a 57-year-old woman who died Tuesday at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville. The woman had been admitted to the hospital earlier this month. It is unknown if the woman had any underlying health issues.
No other deaths have been attributed to the virus in Grady County, the health department said.
Local officials stress that residents continue to abide by Gov. Brian Kemp’s shelter in place order and safety guidelines released by the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), including avoiding gatherings of 10 or more individuals, maintaining six feet of social distance from others and wearing a facemask when in public.
Cairo interim police chief Giovannie Santos said there have not been any incidences of individuals failing to comply with the shelter in place order.
