Jones’ gem, late rally highlight Bulldogs’ weekend

The Thomasville Bulldogs went 2-1 in the Georgia Dugout Club’s weekend tournament at Lakepoint Fielding Emerson.
Thomasville downed Riverwood 5-3 in its final game Saturday, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead.
Harrison Stewart drove in the go-ahead run with a single after Jaylen Jones’ RBI fielder’s choice tied the game.
Jones went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Gabe Duncan, who pitched two scoreless innings of relief and struck out three to get the win, was 2-for-4. Nathan Smith added a double.
Jacob Bradshaw went the first five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and three walks.
North Paulding’s Mitchell Heer held the Bulldogs to three hits while striking out seven in a 4-1 win for the Wolfpack on Saturday morning.
Hurston Waldrep fanned seven in four innings, allowing two earned runs. Jacob Jordan pitched three scoreless and hitless innings while walking three in relief.
Smith and Jones each had a double in the loss.
In the opening game of the tourney, Jones struck out 15 and allowed one hit in six innings as the Bulldogs downed Hart County 4-0. He also went 4-for-4 with a double.
Maylon Cochran was 2-for-3 with a triple.
Ben Rawlings pitched a perfect seventh to close out the win.
Thomasville will host Lee County on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
