Hurston Waldrep’s two-out double in the sixth inning brought in the go-ahead run, and the Thomasville Bulldogs held off the Cook Hornets 9-6 Wednesday in their baseball season opener.

Thomasville scored six runs in the top of the third to take a 6-0 lead, sparking by Jacob Bradshaw’s bases-clearing double.

But the Hornets fought back, scoring four times in the bottom of the third on the strength of three bases-loaded walks.

Maylon Cochran and Witt Wetherington each went 3-for-4 with one RBI for the Bulldogs.

Gabe Duncan, who went 3 2/3 innings, got the win in relief, striking out three while giving up two runs on four hits and two walks.
