CAIRO — Warrants have been issued for the arrest of a Cairo man who police say was involved in a Christmas Day stabbing.
Officers responded to a 911 dispatch early Wednesday morning at a residence on the 1300 block of 10th Avenue NE in reference to someone’s throat being slashed.
When officers arrived, Eric Perez Sales, 33, was found to have a cut along his throat and multiple minor lacerations to the sides of his neck. Sales was also bleeding from his thumb and neck area.
According to a police incident report, two witnesses attempted to provide information to law enforcement, but communication was minimal due to a language barrier. Interim police chief Giovannie Santos arrived at the scene and translated the witnesses’ testimony.
One of the witnesses said Carlos Gomez was seen holding a knife with blood on it. When the witness asked Gomez what had happened, Gomez fled. The witness then went into Sales’ bedroom and found that Sales had been assaulted.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of Gomez, 25, on charges of aggravated assault.
Sales was later transported to Grady General Hospital. His wounds were not life-threatening, police say.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Cairo Police Department at (229) 378-3096.
