CAIRO — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is awaiting autopsy results in a Sunday morning fatal shooting in Cairo.
Once autopsy results are in, the GBI will discuss the case with the Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s office, according to Jamy Steinberg, special agent in charge of the GBI Thomasville office.
Cairo Police contacted the GBI on Sunday at approximately 1:25 a.m. for help with a homicide investigation. GBI agents and a crime scene specialist arrived in the 1200 block of Calvary Road to help Cairo officers.
The GBI’s initial investigation revealed that two male family members got into an argument that escalated. Eventually, one of the men shot the other, and the victim died from his injuries at a local hospital.
No charges have been filed against anyone at this time.
