Another wonderful Victorian Christmas is in the books

By the thousands, residents and visitors alike made their way to Downtown Thomasville on Thursday and Friday for the annual Victorian Christmas.
The forecasts, especially early, called for rain. Instead, we got a light mist Thursday and a fog Friday that made Victorian Christmas really take on the atmosphere of London of more than 100 years ago.
The city welcomes visitors from all over. They come from neighboring counties and they come from other states — that were plenty of Florida tags to be seen in parking lots.
The weather did have an effect on some of the activities: Visits with Santa Claus were moved inside to the Municipal Auditorium’s first floor and there was no nativity scene.
But the atmosphere, with just a little bit of a chill in the air, made it feel more like Christmas. Vendors were out in force. There was music throughout the streets. There was entertainment on the Municipal Auditorium stage.
And this year, there was even a team of reindeer in the Thomasville Fire and Rescue station.
We tip our hats — Victorian top hats, at that — to the folks who make Victorian Christmas such a tremendous event year in and year out for our community. It is a great deal of work that goes into planning and carrying out one of our community’s most noteworthy and landmark festivities, and we appreciate their efforts in putting together such a fantastic event.
