CAIRO — Two suspected drug dealers were taken into custody over the weekend after authorities caught them napping in their car.
According to reports, a concerned resident notified Cairo Police on Saturday that Shicolby Varkal Harvey, 30, was selling drugs out of his car at 434 Washington Homes Drive. When two officers approached the white 2001 Chevrolet Lumina, they saw Harvey and Cardarius Dontrell Sherman, 29, passed out inside.
According to a police incident report, both Harvey and Sherman were sleeping in reclined seats in the front of the car. The passenger side window was partially rolled down, and a “brown leafy substance” could be seen in Harvey’s lap and right hand.
When officers woke up Harvey and Sherman, the two suspects attempted to hide the evidence, the incident report states.
Officers ordered the two men to show their hands and open the vehicle’s doors. An opened bottle of brandy was spilled onto Harvey’s lap as he was exiting the car.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a total of four unopened bags of marijuana, several of which police say Harvey attempted to hide behind the passenger’s seat. Also confiscated was a substance police suspect to be synthetic marijuana, a total of seven pieces of crack cocaine and an unknown white granular substance. A small set of digital scales were also uncovered in the vehicle’s center console.
Both suspects were charged with felony possession of a controlled substance in a drug-free zone and felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
All evidence was transported to the Cairo Police Department for testing and processing.
The arrests occurred Saturday at around 2:16 p.m.
