CAIRO — Cairo police executed three search warrants last week that led to the arrest of two drug suspects and the seizure of multiple firearms and illegal substances.
Searches were conducted Oct. 10 at residences on the 100 block of 11th Street SW and the 300 block of Teresa Edwards Street SW. Both locations were under the control of Jerrod Harris, 36.
Officers seized cocaine packaged for resale from both residences.
Also seized were multiple ounces of ecstasy in powder form, more than 500 tablets of molly, several pounds of marijuana, a firearm and an undisclosed quantity of cash.
Harris was charged with more than 20 criminal charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, trafficking in MDMA and multiple counts of possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute.
A third search warrant was also executed that day at a residence on the 300 block of Teresa Edwards Street SW, under the control of Devanate Terrell Bryant.
Officers seized methamphetamine “ice,” cocaine packaged for distribution, several pounds of marijuana and two firearms.
One of the seized firearms had been reported stolen about one year ago.
Bryant, 27, was charged with 13 criminal charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by receiving a stolen firearm, trafficking methamphetamines and multiple counts of possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute.
Each of the residences police searched were within 1,000 feet of Washington Middle School and a public housing complex. Two of the locations were also within 1,000 feet of Holder Park.
Possession of illegal drugs within 1,000 feet of these areas for the purpose of selling or distributing is a violation of Georgia law.
