CAIRO — Former Grady County clerk Carrie Croy has submitted a plea of not guilty for her alleged role in manipulating her personal paychecks.
Croy’s legal counsel submitted the plea on her behalf at the Grady County Courthouse on Tuesday.
Prosecutors allege Croy took more than $1,500 of county money between April 2015 and April 2018. Her indictment says she further attempted to manipulate the federal and state withholding amounts on her paychecks between January and October 2018.
Suspicious discrepancies surrounding Croy’s paychecks were first noticed by county auditor Perry Henry in October, who then informed the county Board of Commissioners.
Croy resigned her position later that month and surrendered to law enforcement in February.
Grady County commissioners have since requested that prosecutors seek restitution for the money Croy is alleged to have stolen and for costs associated with her investigation.
A grand jury indicted Croy on counts of theft by taking and criminal attempt to commit a felony last month.
The case is slated to go to trial in December.
