THOMASVILLE — Leads police received in the August burglary of a Thomasville pharmacy have gone nowhere. Security and monitoring enhancements are designed to prevent a repeat of the event.

“Right now, we do not have much to go on,” said Lt. Toby Knifer, Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division commander.

The investigation is at a “dead end” until new information is developed, Knifer said.

Store owner Vance Wall said a large amount of narcotics and a wide range of controlled substances were stolen. Some of the drugs taken had higher abuse potential than others, Wall said.

Burglars did not take drugs in liquid form. Wall said the added weight of liquids probably came into play in the Aug. 12 incident.

Significant enhancements have been made to security and monitoring systems at Thomasville’s two Thomas drug stores and at pharmacies Wall owns in Wrens and two stores in South Carolina.

Improvements, he said, include instant notification and instant cloud storage of all video.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and the Georgia Drug and Narcotics Division also are investigating the burglary, Wall said.

Said Knifer, “This does not appear to be a typical burglary we see on an every-day basis. There appears to be more preplanning than the typical burglary investigation.”

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to contact police at (229) 227-3302 or to call 911.

A fresh lead could open a new direction in the investigation, the commander said.
