CAIRO — Authorities have arrested two individuals who they say are responsible for a home invasion shooting and burglary that took place last week.
Investigators say Tarveny Tyrone Shine, 22, and Marcel Tavonto Williams, 24, ransacked an 8th Avenue NW residence shortly before midnight the night of Aug. 20 and robbed resident Charles Gilbert at gunpoint.
Gilbert, who was shot during the burglary, told police that a female he recognized rang his doorbell late at night. When Gilbert opened the door, two unfamiliar men rushed inside and shot him multiple times.
Several unspecified items were taken from the residence by Shine and Williams, according to a statement from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Cairo Police Chief Keith Sandefur previously stated that he was aware of an unknown quantity of cash being stolen.
Investigators identified one of the suspects as Shine, who was arrested Friday afternoon. He has been charged with aggravated assault, first degree home invasion, first degree burglary and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Williams was taken into custody Monday on two counts of aggravated assault, first degree home invasion, first degree burglary and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Both suspects were booked into the Grady County Jail.
Law enforcement is nearing the completion of its investigation into the shooting and still has several more witness interviews, according to GBI.
