CAIRO — A Grady County resident died Tuesday morning after being struck by a piece of agricultural machinery.

William Davis, 78, was likely preparing to plow a field on his property on Pierce Chapel Road when he somehow fell off the John Deere tractor he was driving.

“It’s hard to determine if he just slipped off or could it have been something physical that happened that caused him to fall off,” said Georgia State Patrol Trooper Nick Johnson, who responded to the incident.

Johnson said Davis was struck by a disc harrow which was being pulled by the tractor.

Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred at around 10:45 a.m.
