THOMASVILLE — Gov. Brian Kemp will be among the speakers at Tuesday’s ribbon-cutting and grand opening of Check-Mate, a new Thomasville industry.

The event is at 3:45 p.m. at the Check-Mate plant on the west bypass. Check-Mate is housed in the former Caterpillar building.

The factory, which will manufacture gun magazines, among other products, will begin with a first line of 60 to 70 employees in September.

Check-Mate is expected to grow to 230 jobs in the next five years.

In addition to the governor, Check-Mate officials and District 173 state Rep. Darlene Taylor, R-Thomasville, will speak.

The event will be conducted indoors, where displays of Check-Mate’s operation will be on view.

“People attending can see the beginning of the operation,” said Shelley Zorn, Thomasville Payroll Development executive director.

The building has a new look, Zorn added. The structure has been painted, and grounds have been newly-landscaped, she said.
