MOULTRIE, Ga. — Colquitt County’s Teacher of the Year, Ashley Pitts, has been selected from among 181 candidates to attend NASA’s Space Camp for Educators.

The Georgia Teacher of the Year district winners were given the opportunity to apply for a scholarship to the camp in Huntsville, Ala.

Applicants had to explain how they could use their experiences at Space Camp to positively impact their students. The selection committee looked for a teacher that would implement the ideas and experiences of Space Camp into his/her classroom.

Pitts will attend Space Camp for Educators in the summer of 2020, then present about the experience and the impact it made on her students at the Georgia Teacher of the Year conference 2021.

“I want to bring the whole universe to my students!” Pitts said. “I will use the experiences I gain from Space Camp to be a catalyst inspiring my students to see more, seek more, and learn more.”
