THOMASVILLE — Thomasville Mayor Pro Tem Terry Scott will wear two hats at a Saturday event focusing on violence awareness.

He will lead Thomasville City Council-proclaimed “Think Before You React Gun Awareness Day” at Worldwide Ministries of Christ Church, 1112 Lester St., where he is pastor.

The event, which begins at 9 a.m. at the church, will include a walk beginning on Lester, traversing several city streets and ending on Fern Street.

“Shootings have taken place on all the streets within the last two years,” Scott said. “The rally is designed to bring attention to gun violence.”

After the 1.2-mile walk, participants will return to the church for a program that will include offenders and victims as speakers.

“They will share their experiences,” Scott said.

Pelham residents will participate in the event. Two youngsters were fatally wounded recently at a Pelham ballfield, Scott said.

“I’m looking for about 150 people,” Scott said.

He is being assisted by local residents and other pastors.

Scott said the event — from 9 a.m. to noon — is open to anyone who wants to participate.

The walk will have a police escort. Water and medical personnel will be available.

“It’s going to work,” Scott said. “It’s what the Spirit told me.”
