DALTON, Ga. — Two people were displaced because of a fire at an apartment building at 2104 Club Drive Monday night, according to Dalton Fire Chief Todd Pangle.
“The building wasn’t damaged very badly at all by the fire,” he said. “But we had to vent the roof to fight the fire, so the two top apartments (in an eight-unit building) have holes in the ceiling.”
Pangle said the information the fire department has is that there was one occupant in each of those apartments.
“It is our understanding that they had somewhere to go,” he said.
Pangle said the exact cause of the fire could not be determined but it began in an electrical chase, a conduit in a wall that routes the wiring in a building. He said because of that the owner of the building asked to have the power cut off. Dalton Utilities said it had turned the power back on to four of the units Monday night and the remaining four by 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The fire was reported around 8:54 p.m. Firefighters left the scene around 11:13.
The fire caused about $60,000 in damage, according to a fire department report.
