• Four counts of criminal trespass

• One count of stalking

• One count of theft by deception

• Two counts of false report of a crime

Jones, 30, was charged with false report of a crime. Officers believe he would call police and report a burglary on the opposite side of the city from where residents were reporting a prowler and suspicious activity.

When officers responded to prowler and other calls in the northeast sector of the city, calls about burglaries would be reported on the other side of town, said Lt. Toby Knifer, Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division commander.

“He was reporting burglaries in progress in different locations,” Knifer said “When they (officers) would get there, there would be no evidence of a crime. It was all unfounded.”

Jones is charged with criminal trespass, because he went on property with the intent to commit criminal acts, Knifer said.

He committed theft by deception by telling people he needed money, because his car was broken down.

In late June, Jones surrendered at the police department in a previous rash of prowler and other incidents and was arrested. He later bonded out of jail.

On Friday, June 28, the suspect surrendered a second time at the police department when he learned police were looking for him again.

He remains in jail in lieu of a $2,000 bond.
