CAIRO — Grady County commissioners approved a $15,000 project to install a new portable building to serve as an office at Tired Creek Lake.

The current facility at the lake costs the county approximately $165 per month, and County Administrator Buddy Johnson said the building’s condition is unsuitable.

“I don’t know if you guys have seen the office building, but there’s not much to it,” he told the commissioners.

County officials were approached by the company that leases the structure with an offer to renew their agreement at a higher rate, but Johnson said he did not believe it was worth the cost.

Johnson said the county offered to purchase the building outright, but that the leasing company would not offer a suitable price.

With the current building set to be removed, a consensus vote to approve the purchase of a new structure occurred June 11.

Last week’s vote ratified the earlier action.

Johnson said lake director Mike Binion explored several options, including trailers, RV-style campers and portable buildings before eventually settling on a custom office built by Southern Storage Solutions.

The new structure is designed for extended use and will be constructed with a long-term concrete boarding and metal roofing.

Johnson said the building, priced at approximately $9,000, was the cheapest option that was also sturdy and mobile.

Additional costs associated with the project include wiring, plumbing and insulation.

Funds for the project will come from the excess Tired Creek Lake line item in the 2018 budget.
