MOULTRIE, Ga. – The Georgia South Family Medicine Residency Program celebrated the first class of graduates since the program’s inception in 2016. The ceremony took place at Colquitt County Arts Center, where the graduates were presented their diplomas.

The graduates honored included Jessica Brumfield, D.O., Marco Hur, D.O., and Michael Magat, D.O.

“We are proud to be celebrating our graduating class of residents at Georgia South,” said Colquitt Regional President and CEO Jim Matney. “Drs. Brumfield, Hur and Magat helped us achieve a significant milestone of becoming a teaching hospital, and enhancing the medical education pipeline in South Georgia. They will forever be a special part of the Georgia South family.”

Hur, Brumfield, and Magat all started at Georgia South in the summer of 2016. Brumfield’s post-residency plans include staying on at Georgia South as a faculty member. Magat has also accepted a position at Colquitt Regional as a hospitalist. Hur’s future plans include moving to Springfield Township, New Jersey, to take a job in Urgent Care/Hospital Medicine at MedExpress.

“This is an exceptional group of residents,” said Kirby Smith, D.O., Georgia South program director. “Our program was created to not only prepare residents for their career but to help them exceed as physicians. Drs. Brumfield, Hur and Magat have all proven to be remarkable doctors who, I have no doubt, will succeed in any endeavor they pursue.”

A residency is the last step that a physician must complete before practicing medicine independently. This is a three-year program with focused rotations throughout each year in areas such as orthopedics, obstetrics, critical care, radiology, dermatology, practice management, and ophthalmology, among others. Residents also work at the Georgia South Family Medicine Residency Clinic, developing continuous patient relationships over their three years in Moultrie.

“Our residents have been excellent additions to Colquitt Regional during their time in Moultrie,” said Hospital Authority Chairman Maureen A. Yearta, Ed.D. “We are excited to welcome Dr. Brumfield and Dr. Magat to the Colquitt Regional family. I know that they will continue to serve our region with their outstanding expertise and care. Although we are sad to see Dr. Hur leave our area, we know that he will represent Georgia South well in New Jersey.”

Georgia South Family Medicine Residency will also be welcoming a new class of resident interns this week. The incoming class of 2022 include Arian Baker, M.D., Ethan McBrayer, D.O., Jermaine Robinson, D.O., and Stephen Yarbrough, D.O.

Georgia South Family Medicine Residency Program at Colquitt Regional Medical Center is located in Moultrie, Georgia and is accredited by both the American Osteopathic Association and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. There are currently 11 faculty and staff members and 11 residents in the program.
