VALDOSTA — Police are investigating a pair of home invasions, one of which resulted in a shooting.

In the first incident, police responded to the 2100 block of Michael Terrace at 3 a.m. Saturday, according to a statement from the Valdosta Police Department.

A resident got a phone call from someone who said they were coming over. When there was a knock on the door, it was forced open by two unknown men, one of whom had a gun, police said. 

One of the residents struggled with the armed man and the gun went off, hitting the resident, the statement said. 

Detectives found evidence drug sales had been going on at the home, police said. The resident who had received the phone call fled before police arrived, and none of the other occupants cooperated with the investigation, according to the statement.

The shooting victim was taken to South Georgia Medical Center and is in good condition, police said.

At 2 p.m. Sunday, police responded to the second incident, in the 700 block of Donald Avenue. 

A man was sitting inside his home when another man entered the house and began hitting the occupant with a brick, police said. As the resident defended himself, a juvenile entered and began hitting him with her fists. The victim knew both offenders, police said.

The victim received some superficial injuries and refused medical treatment, the statement said.

The suspects were located by patrol officers and taken into custody.  

Andrita James, 33, of Valdosta was charged with aggravated assault (non-family member) and other weapon, burglary and non-forced entry to a residence charges. The 16-year-old juvenile was charged with battery, according to police reports.
