THOMASVILLE — Police were waiting  when a burglary suspect climbed from the window of a Raleigh Avenue house.

A resident called police about 12:45 a.m. Monday to report a man trying to enter the front door and window of a house before walking to the far side of the house in the 400 block of Raleigh.

A responding officer reported finding pry marks around the front door knob and a dead-bolt lock on the front door. The officer heard what sounded like a screen being removed on the far side of the house, according to an incident report.

The officer ran to the far side of the house while removing his taser from its holster. The report stated a man wearing a tank top over his head and face exited the house through the window and uttered a vulgarity when he saw police. Ignoring the officer’s verbal command to stop, he was tased. The suspect ran toward Graydon Avenue and into heavy brush.

After the suspect was on the ground, he would not show his hands and was tased again and eventually handcuffed.

According to the report, The suspect told police, ” ‘My life is over. Y’all might as well just shoot me. I’m just trying to make a living.’ “

The suspect told police his name was Brandon Ross, and he left his cell phone near the Raleigh house. Police found the phone lying in grass near the window through which the suspect left the house, the report stated.

Ross told officers he took several marijuana joints from the house and planned to smoke them. Several marijuana joints were found in Ross’ pants pocket, the report stated.

The suspect, 33, of 714 Varnedoe St., is charged with burglary, obstructing or hindering law enforcement and misdemeanor marijuana possession.

“Because someone reported the activity, we were able to arrive while the suspect was still in the house,” said Maj. Wade Glover, Thomasville Police Department public information officer.
