A trip eight years ago to Washington, D.C, has spurred a Hawaii resident to complete a project honoring service members killed in the Vietnam War.

Janna Hoehn, who has lived on Maui for 28 years, and her husband visited the Vietnam Memorial. Though she never knew anyone killed in Vietnam, she wanted a rubbing of one of the names. She chose the name of a soldier listed as MIA.

Hoehn took the rubbing home and tried to locate the family but had no luck. Her cousin eventually found a college photo of the soldier in question and two years later, she saw a story on “Faces Never Forgotten” for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. The goal is to put a face to every name on the Wall.

Hoehn sent in the picture she had and she received a thank you email and a request to help find photos of 42 service members from Maui County killed in Vietnam.

From there, Hoehn found photos of the five service member from her childhood home in California.

To date, she has collected over 53,000 photos of the 58,315 names on the Wall and is looking for photos of four Thomas County service members killed in Vietnam in particular — Livingston Glenn of Boston, Edgar Harris of Thomasville, Morris C. Pickett of Boston and Terry M. Rimes of Thomasville. She also is looking for photos of Elbert J. Baker Jr. of Quitman, Willie J. Frazier of Quitman and Henry L. Watts Sr. of Baconton.

Hoehn said she would appreciate hearing from any relative, friend or classmate of the fallen service member on the list, even if they don’t have a  photo but knows which school they attended.

All of these photos will be submitted to the “Wall of Faces” online memorial with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund website, as well as accompanying the Healing Wall that travels all over the U.S.

To submit photos or information, email Hoehn at neverforgotten2014@gmail.com. For more information about the Wall of Faces go to www.vvmf.org/thewall.
