Rose Show and Festival show the community at its finest

Only in the comic books can someone really control the weather. Skies were gloomy early Friday.
By the time it was time to cut the ribbon on the 98th Rose Show, the sun was breaking through. And the weather was picture perfect for the remainder of Thomasville’s biggest weekend of the year.

This year’s Rose Show and Festival drew yet another huge crowd, whether they were here to run the streets in the Rose City Run skippered by Dr. Jim and Carolyn Story or peer at the muscle cars gleaming in the sun at the Car and Truck Show, take part in the Arts in the Park or the Bark in the Park or the Art Walk — not to mention the Orchids on Parade, the Standard Flower Show, the Civic Garden Club’s Flower Show or the reason that started it all, the Rose Show.
For our visitors and residents alike, there was plenty to see and do. As the Rose Show and Festival continue, though, it isn’t above a few added touches to keep the event even livelier.
The Rose Fest Finale, held Saturday night at the Ritz Amphitheater, was a splendid way to put a bow on the Rose Festival. A family-centric event — even if you could get a beer — allowed people to soak in another gorgeous night. And there was stuff for the kids to do, too.
Our hats go off to the organizers of the Rose Show and Festival and the components that make it up. Perhaps the multitude of visitors who came to Thomasville the last few days saw that it is truly a place apart.
