MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Louisiana man accused of murdering his girlfriend, a Moultrie woman who disappeared in summer 2016, was in Colquitt County Jail on Monday after arriving over the weekend.
Michael Heads was arrested on Tuesday in Slidell, La. He has been charged with felony murder and two counts financial transaction card fraud.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified Heads, 49, on Thursday as the suspect in the slaying of Shada Esther.
Esther was last seen on Aug. 23, 2016, and the GBI said its investigation determined that she “was last with” Heads.
“Heads left Moultrie and traveled to Atlanta within an hour of Esther’s last contact with anyone else,” the GBI said in a Thursday news release.
Police interviewed Heads in Conyers and searched his car early in the investigation.
In February 2017 the Banks County (Ga.) Sheriff’s Office requested assistance in identifying the remains of a woman found in a wooded area, according to the GBI. Earlier this month DNA analysis confirmed those remains were Esther’s.
