TIFTON — The Tifton City Council announces the opening of a new dog park in Fulwood Park, near the big playground.
A ribbon cutting was held in Apr. 25, officially opening the park for public use. More than a dozen four-legged residents and their people attended for the opening ceremony.
Tifton Mayor Julie Smith, who cut the ribbon, said that she thinks the dog park is a great addition to Fulwood Park.
“This has been a labor of love,” Smith said. “We have been raising money for this dog park for several years now. For all of you who made a contribution, whether it was $5 or $500, I just want to say thank you so much.”
Smith recognized city council members Jack Folk and Frank Sayles, city manager Pete Pyrzenski and ESG for working on getting the park completed.
There is one play area for larger dogs and a separate one for smaller dogs. Each area features several brightly painted fire hydrants and water fountains.
Folk said that everything inside the fences was a direct result of private donations.
“It’s not completely done yet,” Smith said. “There’s more coming, but it’s ready to use.”
A Touch-A-Truck event was held at the same time as the grand opening for the city’s younger residents.
Children were able to get up close to a fire truck, a dump truck, an excavator, a police car, a street sweeper and a utility truck.
The event was planned as part of Georgia Cities Week.
