Yellow Jackets rally to top Tift

THOMASVILLE — Thomas County Central rallied with a five-run fourth inning and upended Tift County 7-4 in a non-region baseball game Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets, now 22-2, trailed 4-2 going into the bottom of the fourth. Zach Fletcher’s two-run double tied the game, and after Nick Herndon’s infield hit, Slade Taylor put Central in front with a two-run triple, all with no outs.

Tift County scored two runs in the first inning with two outs. Owen Manning brought in a run with a single, and Mason Avant drew a bases-loaded walk.

Herndon tripled and scored on a wild pitch for the Yellow Jackets’ first run in the third, and an error and passed ball enabled Central to tie the game at 2-2.

Tift went back in front on a run-scoring double play and an error.

Tift County was held to four hits, including Ben Brock’s double.

Herndon and Carson Odom each went 2-for-3, and Fletcher was 2-for-4. Yellow Jackets batters also drew seven walks.

Luke Benton struck out four and gave up two earned runs on three hits in four innings. Mack McDowell threw two scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out two, and Zach Fletcher pitched one scoreless inning.

Thomas County Central visits Harris County for a doubleheader on Friday.
