Avery Lee Dotson, 7, was a passenger in a 2012 Nissan Versa driven by Amanda Marie Dotson, 42, which was stopped in the northbound lane of Highway 225 behind a 2013 Hyundai Elantra near the intersection with Grand Prix Boulevard, according to a report from the Georgia State Patrol. The Elantra was turning left onto Grand Prix Boulevard.
A 2002 Jeep Wrangler, driven by a 16-year-old male, was traveling north and struck the rear of the Versa with its front. The Wrangler came to a rest in the northbound lane of Highway 225. The Versa traveled into the southbound lane and struck the left rear and left side of the Elantra with its right front before coming to a “final uncontrolled rest facing northwest on Grand Prix Boulevard and partially in the southbound lane” of Highway 225, according to the report. The Elantra came to a rest “facing southwest across both lanes of Grand Prix Boulevard.”
According to the report, contributing factors to the wreck by the driver of the Jeep Wrangler were following too close and mobile device (distracted).
