SBA Disaster Loan Center opens
The Grady County Agri-Center will be housing a team of customer service representatives from the Small Business Administration who are working with Georgia businesses and residents affected by the recent severe weather. Both businesses and residents can apply for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. SBA to assist with recovery and rebuilding. The representatives will be at the Agri-Center through Wednesday, March 27 at 4 p.m. For more information, call 1-800-877-8339.
Women in Workforce Luncheon planned
The Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce and First National Bank will be sponsoring the annual Women in the Workforce Luncheon to be held at Davis Park behind the Roddenbery Memorial Library on April 23 at noon. This year’s event will feature Teresa A. MacCartney, executive vice chancellor of operations for the University System of Georgia Board of Regents, and a native of Grady County. First Methodist Church musical Sunday
The Cairo First United Methodist Church will present “The Weeping Tree,” a musical presentation for Lent, this Sunday March 31 at the morning services to be held at 8:30 and 11. The Weeping Tree is a poignant tale of the cross featuring beloved hymns, original music, narration and simple sacred symbols that share a touching testament of grace. Everyone in the family is invited to come and celebrate the beginning of the Lent Season with this special presentation.
American Legion invites veterans
The American Legion Post No. 122 invites all area veterans, young and old, to be a part of their organization, which meets the second Tuesday night of each month at the Masonic Lodge in Cairo at 7 p.m. There is a meal served and all veterans are welcome to join the legion for fellowship and support.
Annual golf tourney is April 20
The annual Ken Walden Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at the Tired Creek Golf Course on Saturday, April 20. There will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. and the tournament is a four-person scramble format. The entry fee is $50 per players and this includes the cart, greens fees, lunch and prizes. Grady Republicans meet on fourth Mondays
The Grady County Republican Party meets on the fourth Monday of each month at the Full Gospel Chapel, located at 826 1st Street, SW in Cairo at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to join the group.
Donations sought for storm relief
The Grady County Help Agency is accepting tax deductible donations to help with the tornado relief efforts. If you would like to make a monetary donation, please mail your checks to Help Agency, P.O. Box 1452, Cairo, GA 39828. Please make sure to write “tornado relief’ in the memo of the check.
Library features world-renowned musician
One of the premier autoharpists in the world, Adam Miller, will be at the Roddenbery Memorial Library on Sunday, April 7 at 3 p.m. in the auditorium singing, “Folksongs of the Great American Railroad”. A renowned American folksinger and natural-born storyteller, Miller accompanies his rich, resonant baritone voice with lively finger-picking acoustic guitar and stunningly beautiful autoharp melodies. A masterful entertainer who never fails to get his audience singing along, he has distinguished himself as one of the greatest interpreters of American folksong and folktales, and as a performer who appeals to audiences of all ages. Womans Club holds raffle fundraiser
The Cairo Womans Club is currently selling raffle tickets as the club’s major fundraiser to help fund scholarships for two Cairo High School graduates. The raffle tickets are to win one of two $200 gift certificates to Cairo’s famous Mr. Chick Restaurant and are being sold for $5 each. Tickets may be purchased from any club member with the drawing being held on May 14.
Grief support group meets
Grief Share, a support group that offers help and encouragement for those who have lost a loved one, meets on Tuesday nights from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cairo Christmas Center on Highway 188 in Cairo. For more information, contact Group Leaders Don and Lorenia Carter at 397-0281.
