The Thomas County Central baseball team swept a double header against the Warner Robins Demons on Friday, pushing its record to 15-1 (6-1).
In game one, the Yellow Jackets defeated Warner Robins 12-0 in six innings. Thomas County’s RJ Delaney pitched a complete game, giving up three hits and one walk while striking out six.
The offense collected 12 hits, getting two hits each from Zach Fletcher, Slade Taylor, and RJ Delaney. Nick Herndon completed a very rare feat in the game, hitting for the cycle. Herndon had a double in first inning, a triple in the second inning, a single in the fifth inning, and complete the feat in the sixth inning with a home run.
Thomas County continued its offensive surge in game two, outscoring the Demons 16-8. The Yellow Jackets tallied 12 hits throughout the lineup, with Fletcher and Herndon getting multiple hits in the game.
Pace Mercer picked up the win on the mound, pitching four innings allowing one earned run on two hits and four walks while striking out six. Mac McDowell was credited with the save by pitching the last three innings, giving up one earned run on seven hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
“We traveled better this week, getting off the bus with more energy after the long ride,” said Coach Ryan Strickland. “We took care of business and got to see something that I can’t recall every witnessing before in a high school game — a player hitting for the cycle. That’s impressive.”
The Yellow Jackets will be on the road Tuesday as they travel to Lowndes for a 5:30 p.m. game. Central will be at home against Deerfield Beach from Fort Lauderdale, Florida at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday before hosting Bainbridge at 5 p.m. for a region doubleheader.
