MOULTRIE — WALB-TV is reporting that Rush Propst, Colquitt County High School head football coach, has been suspended with pay pending an investigation, according to Superintendent Doug Howell.
In 12 seasons at the helm of the Packers’ program, Propst has turned Colquitt into a national powerhouse.
The Packers have won two state championships under Propst’s guidance, going undefeated in 2014 and 2015. Colquitt has finished as state runner-up the past two seasons and also reached the state championship game in 2010.
Total, Propst has led the Packers to a 119-35 record.
It’s not the first time Propst has ran into controversy in Moultrie either.
In 2016, Propst was suspended for one year by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission for head-butting a helmeted player during the previous fall’s state playoffs. The suspension was later dropped by the state board.
Prior to arriving in Georgia, Propst racked up five Alabama state titles at Hoover High School, winning 110 games in nine seasons for the program that was the subject of an MTV reality show “Two-A-Days” in 2005-06.
His tenure there, though, also had off-the-field controversy.
He resigned as the Bucs’ head coach in October 2007 amid reports of grade-tampering, misappropriation of funds and marital infidelity. He admitted to having a child as a result of a relationship outside his marriage, but the grade-tampering and questions about the use of funds from the television deal were never proved.
In 19 years as a head coach in Alabama, Propst had a 176-61 record.
This is a developing story and more information will be posted when confirmed.
