TU softball sweeps Brewton-Parker

THOMASVILLE, Ga. — The Thomas University softball team swept Brewton-Parker College, 3-0, 5-2, in a doubleheader Monday afternoon at Armory Field.
Second baseman Hannah Wilde connected on a pair of hits in the first game, including a double, and cracked a two-run home run and stole a pair of bases in the second game.
The Night Hawks next play in the Gulf Shores Invitational Tournament in Alabama from March 1-3. Thomas, which is receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches Top 25 poll, faces three teams listed in the national poll in that tournament: No. 12 Freed-Hardeman (March 1), No. 18 Central Methodist (March 2) and RV Lyon (March 3).
Game One
Thomas scored a pair of runs in the third, then added a final run in the fifth to earn the 3-0 win.
Sophomore pitcher Shealah Brown struck out four and allowed just four hits with no runs scored in seven innings.
Wilde was 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored while Izzy Ekstam and Corryne Diaz each recorded an RBI for TU.
In the third, Wilde hit a one-out infield single then advanced to second after Diaz was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Ekstam singled to right, picking up an RBI. Diaz then scored as Ekstam was caught trying to take second base.
Michaela Farr put down a one-out bunt in the fifth, then stole second and scored off a base hit to left center by Diaz.
Game Two
Thomas took the early lead after plating two runs in the bottom of the first, but Brewton-Parker equalized with two runs in the top of the second. TU went on to add a pair of runs in the third and one in the fourth to sweep the Barons.
Redshirt sophomore pitcher Rebecca Boesen struck out four in seven innings, and allowed two runs on 10 hits.
Farr tagged a pair of doubles and scored twice for TU while Addyson Mauldin also connected on a pair of hits. Wilde recorded a home run, two RBI, two stolen bases and a pair of runs scored.
In the first inning, Farr hit a leadoff double down the right field line, then scored on Wilde’s home run.
Brewton-Parker scored a pair of runs from four hits in the top of the second, and Thomas was able to strand three Barons on the bases.
In the third, Farr again led off the frame with a double. Wilde reached on a fielder’s choice, and Farr advanced to third. A sac fly from Diaz plated Farr, then Wilde stole second. With two outs, Wilde stole third, then ran home on an error by the Barons’ catcher.
TU’s final run came in the fourth, as Holly Campbell doubled down the left field line, advanced to third on a sac bunt by Raelye Rouw and scored as Brianna Mendoza sent a sac fly to left.
