Middle Georgia takes two from TU

THOMASVILLE, Ga. — The Thomas University baseball team opened the 2019 season against No. 17 Middle Georgia State University Saturday afternoon at Varnedoe Stadium.
The Night Hawks (0-2) fell 25-6 in the first game, then lost 3-2 in game two.

Game 1
In the first game, MGSU scored a pair of runs in the first inning, then TU cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame. The Knights then scored 20 runs in the next two innings, before TU scored a pair in the fourth. The 17th-ranked team added three more in the sixth, then Thomas put up three in the bottom of the seventh, taking the 25-6 loss.
Starting pitcher Thomas Sorrentino took the loss for TU, allowing 11 runs from 10 hits in one inning.
Shortstop Chase Hinson started his senior year going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored, and had one stolen base. Redshirt junior Randall Heller was 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Game 2
Thomas scored two runs in the third to take the early lead, but MGSU plated three in the fifth to earn its second victory of the day.

Starter Chance Carter picked up the loss, striking out five, but allowing three earned runs from five hits and three walked batters.
Second baseman Luis Martinez tagged TU’s first extra-base hit of the year, a double, to lead off the bottom of the third. Landon Boyette singled, moving Martinez over, then both runners advanced a base on a passed ball. Hinson then sent a sac fly to left, plating Boyette.
