DALTON, Ga. — Dalton’s next director of tourism could be a familiar face.

The boards of the Dalton Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center Authority have named Margaret Thigpen as the sole finalist for the post. The director of tourism serves as the executive director of both the CVB and the Dalton Convention Center.

Thigpen served as the executive director of the CVB from 2006 to 2009. She has served as the director of the Daphne, Alabama, CVB, the Daphne Civic Center and the Bayfront Pavilion since 2010.

“We received 12 applications and her’s just really stood out,” said Mike Kinsey, chairman of the convention center board. “She’s got experience not only with the CVB but managing two facilities. The fact that she has been here and was well thought of also helped.”

Brett Huske, the most recent director of tourism, left recently to take a job in Indonesia, working for Telunas Resorts. Huske became executive director of the CVB after Thigpen’s departure and executive director of the convention center in 2013.

Kinsey said the two boards will likely vote on Thigpen soon.

“We have to wait 14 days after announcing her as finalist,” he said. “But I suspect we will vote soon after that. We’ve got good people in there managing the day-to-day operations. But we don’t want to let that position remain vacant long.”
