Jerry Connell, guest speaker for John B. Gordon Chapter 383, presented four non-fiction books to several members who attended the United Daughters of the Confederacy meeting to hear and learn about CSA soldier Angus McDermid. The name of the four books given was “Crossroads of Conflict, A Guide to Civil War Sites In Georgia.” written by Barry L. Brown and Gordon R. Elwell.
The book was published by the Georgia Civil War Commission. This book was originally published in 1958. When the book was first published it included 155 Civil War sites. This newest edition published in 2010 contains 350 sites. This actually does not represent all Civil War-related sites in Georgia.
The way members were chosen to receive one of the books had to do with special dates in the life of Angus McDermid, such as a member who had a birthday month and date closest to the date McDermid signed up with the CSA, date McDermid was born and died and date McDermis fought his first battle. The members that were presented the books were very appreciative to Connell for such a thoughtful gift.
