Man arrested for smuggling meth into state

Ofelio Luviano-Aguirre, 49, of Garland, Texas was arrested for trafficking of more than 10 pounds of methamphetamine.

JASPER, Fla. — A Texas man was arrested for trafficking of more than 10 pounds of methamphetamine.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 49-year-old Ofelio Luviano-Aguirre, of Garland, Texas, was stopped on Interstate 75 for multiple traffic violations around 2 p.m. Jan. 3.

According to the report, the suspect had difficulty removing his Mexican driver license from his wallet due to his hand shaking.

He also informed officers he was traveling to Garland, Texas, via Interstate 10, but he was stopped on I-75, the report states. 

A search of the vehicle discovered five plastic containers of crystal methamphetamine, weighing approximately 12.5 pounds with a street value of $454,000. 

According to FHP, the suspect admitted placing the plastic containers in his toolbox but he thought it was medicine that he was delivering to a person near Tampa. 

Luviano-Aguirre was charged with two counts of amphetamine trafficking, possession of drug paraphernalia, smuggling methamphetamine into the state and amphetamine possession.
