City hydrant replacement project enters second week

TIFTON — Over the next few weeks, the City of Tifton’s contractor will be actively working on the Fire Hydrant Replacement project.
This project entails the removal and replacement of old fire hydrants throughout the city.
Many of the fire hydrants being replaced are original fire hydrants that date back to the early 1900’s, which makes it difficult to find replacement parts for these hydrants. These fire hydrants also no longer meet the standards for fire protection because they do not have the larger outlets needed to hook up to modern fire trucks and achieve maximum water flow in the event of a fire. During the removal and replacement of the fire hydrants, the water will have to be turned off in the area.
