Senior Jasmine Lewis headlines another strong Lafayette team.

With the basketball season set to tip off in North Florida, high school gyms are ready to be packed with energized crowds.

Whether it’s a no-look pass, a buzzer-beating shot or ankle-breaking crossover, each member of the All-Suwannee Valley Preseason Girls Basketball Team is guaranteed to bring the crowd to it’s feet during the 2018-19 season.

And during the season, The Suwannee Democrat, Jasper News and Mayo Free Press will feature each for an in-depth look at what makes them a member of the preseason all-area team.

Jasmine Lewis, Lafayette senior

There’s nothing the senior guard can’t do on the basketball court. She’s can pass, shoot, rebound, take the ball up the court and also dominate on the defensive end.

“What makes her great is she always is looking to get better. She pushes her teammates to get better and holds herself to very high standards. She is never satisfied with what she has done today because she knows she has to be better tomorrow.”

— LHS coach Jimmy Blankenship

Renee Clines, Lafayette junior

A transfer from Columbia High, Clines is a standout player that gives Lafayette a huge lift toward winning a state title.

“Just getting to know her since school has started. She’s a hard worker, always has a smile on her face and never gets down on herself. She shoots the ball well, quick and really smart with the basketball. Looking for great things from her this season.”

— LHS coach Jimmy Blankenship

 Tori Suggs, Branford senior

Suggs has been front and center the past three seasons as Branford’s top player, leading the resurgence of the BHS girls basketball program.

“She loves the game and she’s been around it her whole life. She’s a gym rat.”

— BHS coach Carla Suggs

Jade Jones, Suwannee senior

There is no quit in Jones, who has suffered some serious injuries the past two seasons. She’s back and leading a much-improved Suwannee team.

“She has a knack for the game. She was averaging around 10 points per game last season before she got hurt. Just a really good person and an all-around student athlete.”

— SHS coach Brian Bullock

Aleah McCallum, Hamilton County senior

McCallum looks to step into a leading role for Hamilton County after coming off the bench last season.
