Halloween events offer spooky fun

TIFTON — The Tift area is full of Halloween events this year, from mazes and movies to festivals and carnivals.

• Pumpkin Patch and Mini Maze at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture Store, open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• The Market at Rutland Farms Fall Festival, Saturdays in October, starting at 10 a.m. The market features bounce houses, face painting, corn maze, pumpkin patch, petting zoo and hay rides, among other things. Admission is $8 per person, with children 2 and younger free with a paid adult.

• Haunted House for Relay, Ashburn. 6-10 p.m. Oct. 19, 20, 26, 27, 29, 30 & 31. This haunted house is a fundaiser for Relay for Life of Turner Co. Georgia. Location is the warehouse behind the Old Denham’s OneStop in Sycamore.

• The Ultimate Nightmare Haunted House (117 W. 11th Ave, Cordele). Oct. 20, 26, 27 & 31.

• Tunnels of Terror presents Fear in the Forest, 1484 Freeman Road, Rebecca, Ga. Oct. 26, 27 & 31. 8:30 p.m. — 11 p.m. $7 per person.

October 21

• Pumpkin Carving at the Carnegie (Fitzgerald), 1-4 p.m. Guests are asked to bring their own pumpkin to the Carnegie Center Courtyard. Scoopers, carvers, templates and paint will be provided.

October 22

• Film Club Movie Night: Classic Horror Origins: Halloween, 6 p.m. at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

October 24

• First Baptist Tifton Chili Cook Off and Trunk or Treat. Cook off from 5-6 p.m., trunk or treat from 6-7 p.m.

• Kid’s Night at Chili’s Halloween Edition. Free S’mores Molten for kids. Reservations must be made by calling (229) 382-3138.

October 25

• Hay Bale Decorating Contest at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Decorating begins Oct. 25, judging on Nov. 5.

• Octoberfest at Tifton Health and Rehabilitation (1451 Newton Drive), 5-7 p.m. The fest features rides, games, cotton candy, face painting, music and food among other things.

• Trunk or Treat, 6-8 p.m. at Crossview Baptist Church, 506 Irwinville Hwy, Fitzgerald.

October 25-27, 29-31

Haunted Theatre, 7:30 p.m. at the Tift Theatre for the Performing Arts. Admission is $7.

October 26

• Tricks and Treats Monster Mash, 5-7 p.m. at the Flint RiverQuarium (101 Pine Ave, Albany). Tricks & Treats is a fun annual event held the Friday before Halloween in conjunction with Thronateeska Heritage Center. It provides a safe venue for trick or treating throughout the Flint RiverQuarium and along the “Candy Path” (aka Riverfront Trail) to Thronateeska Heritage Center.

October 27

• Trick or Treat in the Village, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village.

The Museum invites children to don their favorite woodland creature costume and trick-or-treat their way around the historic village. Interpreters will welcome all the little costumed trick-or-treaters with candy in the homes and buildings throughout the historic village. A costume contest will be held at 1 p.m. on the porch of the Historic Village Drug Store.

A new addition to this annual event is the Touch-a-Tractor, Truck and more event. It will be taking place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the large parking lot near I-75. Children will be able to get up-close and personal with their favorite vehicles from a fire truck, cement truck, a crane, big tractors and even a helicopter.

Activities for the day include face painting, pony rides, hay rides, a petting zoo, a trained-chicken show, dunking booth, and interactive activities in the Historic Village. Visitors can also purchase pumpkins at the Museum’s pumpkin patch. The pumpkin patch will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m.– 5 p.m. starting on October 6. The pumpkin patch is located at the Country Store near the entrance to the Museum. Admission is not required to visit the pumpkin patch.

Admission to the Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village on Saturday is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (age 55 and over), $5 for children 5-16 years of age, and free for children four and under.

• Spooktacular at Chehaw, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Chehaw (105 Chehaw Park Road, Albany). Come in costume for a chance to win prizes. This all-ages event is included in zoo admission, and as always free for members. A Costume Contest is at 1 p.m. The event features new halloween themed games, face painting, cookie decorating, special Halloween animal enrichment, prizes and candy.

• Halloween Comic Fest, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at Comics and Cards Inc of Tifton. The yearly Halloween Comic Fest will have mini-comics for the kids and grown comics for all the kids at heart. There will be candy, costumes, and free comics.

• Fright Night in the Haunted Maze, 7:30 p.m. at Rutland Farms.

The Giant Corn Maze takes a twisted turn on Halloween night as it transforms into a labyrinth of fear. Visitors will try to navigate their way through the terror and make it out alive. No Flashlights or cell phone flashlights will be permitted in the maze during fright night.

Cost:

– Fright Night Admission Fee: $10 per person. Children 5 & under are free with a paid adult. Groups of 12 or more will receive a discount.

– Parental discretion is advised. Children 12 and under should be accompanied by an adult.”

• Fall Festival at Wayside Baptist Church (520 Ga. Hwy 125 S.), beginning at 5 p.m.

October 28

• Howl-o-ween at the Tift County Animal Shelter, 2-5 p.m. Guests are invited to dress their furry friends in their favorite costumes for trick-or-treating at the shelter. A costume contest at 3 p.m. with prizes for scariest, funniest and more creative. The event features a photo booth, raffles, games and sweet treats.

• First United Methodist Church Fall Festival Trunk or Treat, 4 p.m. A family night of fun is planned for the community together for fun and fellowship. The event features bounce houses, Trunk or Treat, a cake walk and Bingo, among other things. Dinner will follow at 6 p.m. in the social hall.

• First Baptist Church of Chula Trunk or Treat, 4-6 p.m. (30 Academy Drive, Chula).

• Fall Festival Trunk or Treat, beginning at 4 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church (4454 GA Hwy 256, Sumner).

• CrossView Church Fall Festival, 6 p.m. The festival features a bouncy house, a choo-choo train, photo booth, a donut relays, cake walks, face tattoos, candy corn bowling, ball toss, and pin-the-stem-on-the-pumpkin. The church will be serving hotdogs and chili.

October 29

• Pet Halloween Costume Party, 5-7 p.m. at Ocilla-Irwin Chamber of Commerce (367 Sly Hill Road, Ocilla). Guests can dress up their animals for a Halloween Party at Irwin Animal Clinic for games, prizes treats and more.

October 30

• Halloween Walk, 3-5 p.m. at ABAC campus.

October 31

• Halloween Carnival, 4:30-5:45 p.m. at the Tifton-Tift County Public Library.

• Downtown Trick or Treat and Flash Mob, 5 p.m. throughout downtown Tifton. Free candy for costumed children 12 and under. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

• Halloween Stroll at the Tifton Mall, 5-7 p.m. Free candy will be passed out to children ages 12 and under.

• Chamber Chili and Chills Cookoff, 5-7 p.m. at the Ashburn-Turner County Chamber of Commerce (238 E. College Ave, Ashburn). The first ever Chili and Chills Cookoff event is meant to promote fun and tourism to Turner County. Guests are asked to bring a canned good of their choice to donate to Backpack Buddies or the Sheppard’s Pantry Food Bank. Guests will then receive three black beans to cast a vote for their favorite chili.

• All Hallows’ Eve at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 6 p.m. The church will be having a trunk-or-treat, hayride, carnival games, dance floor and food.

• Lighthouse Harbor Worship Center Trunk or Treat (212 N. Park Ave.), 6 p.m. Candy, games and concessions will be on hand, among others things.

• Harvest Party at Carpenter Road Church (40 Carpenter Road N.), 6-8 p.m. Free food, games, bouncy houses, an obstacle course and a photo booth will be featured.

• Fall on the Avenue at Hunt Park, 6-8 p.m. This event will feature Trunk or Treat, a rock climbing wall, a bouncy house, face painting, a hayride food and more.

• UGCLife Trunk or Treat, 6-8 p.m. around the Eighth Street Middle School track. More than 40 cars will be decorated with various themes, along with bounce houses, inflatable slides, and free candy. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

• Omega Church of God Trunk or Treat, beginning at 7:30 p.m. (1471 Georgia Ave, Omega).

• Movie in the Park- Hocus Pocus (Fitzgerald), 7:30-10:30 p.m. Enjoy a free movie in Grand Plaza Park, across from the Grand Theatre. Bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket and have a blast watching this classic Halloween Movie. The theatre will have concessions for sale. The Jr. Board will sell glow sticks.

• The House on the Haunted Trail, 8 p.m. until midnight at 239 Tifton-Eldorado Road. Candy and refreshments will be available.
