MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Colquitt County woman returned home Thursday afternoon to find a strange truck parked at her residence and the front door open.
When deputies arrived they found the truck was reported stolen in North Carolina, and the intruder was captured after he knocked on the door of another residence in the area. The suspect faces charges not only here but in multiple states.
After seeing the suspicious 2008 Dodge pickup truck with a North Carolina tag at about 1:30 p.m. at her residence in the 4000 block of Old Adel Road, Amanda Roberts called 911. Deputies checked inside the house and found that the intruder was not inside, Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Katrina Johnson said.
“It was obvious some property had been gone through,” she said. “A shotgun and a bag full of items was laying by the door that enters through the garage.”
Inside the truck the officers found a pawn receipt from a local pawn shop that had been written about 30 minutes before Roberts called for assistance, Johnson said. The receipt was written to Kenton Bryan Moore, 51, of Stockton, Ga.
“We did locate him,” she said. “He walked out of the woods and up to a residence on Mallie Norman Lane, where he was apprehended with a firearm in his possession.”
The resident there recognized that Moore was the suspect because a photo had been put online and a news report featured him.
Moore apparently just wanted to turn himself in, Johnson said.
“He was right around the corner,” she said.
Moore has been charged with burglary, bringing stolen property across state lines and two counts possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
In addition to the pawn receipt officers also found jewelry in the truck. The item pawned in Moultrie was a ring, Johnson said, and police do not know its origin or how it came to be in Moore’s possession.
“When running a check on Moore we determined he also was wanted by Dothan, Ala., police, (in) Houston County, Ala., Panama City — Bay County Sheriff’s Office,” Johnson said. “They have active warrants.”
He also is a suspect in the theft of the truck in Charlotte, N.C.
